BREAKING NEWS!! ASUU Rejects FG Negotiation Team, Says Strike Continues (Full Story)

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the ongoing strike by the union will continue until the federal government resolve all the issues in contention.
It also said it has rejected Babalakin who led the FG negotiation team.
This stance is coming as the Union maintained that the first meeting held with the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige has yet to go into substantive issues which led to the strike.
While speaking to newsmen after the Congress of the Union, chairman ASUU, University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole said ASUU members will not allow the ruling elite to destroy the heritage of the poor which is qualitative public varsity education.
According to Omole, Wale Babalakin who is the leader of Federal Government team is being rejected by the Union because he is an interested party pursuing a private university license and will do everything to jeopardize public education funding.
Omole noted that a situation whereby two members in the FG team are pursuing their private university licenses indicate they will not favour funding of public education.
The ASUU boss maintained that the three-week old ASUU strike is borne out of genuine and patriotic commitment to ensure a better future for children of the masses and that of Nigeria.
He therefore dismissed the allegation being bandied by the government that the strike was political.
“How can our strike be political when there are matters that you as government signed into and you failed to fulfill your promises? To us, it is the Federal government that is being political with the truth by becoming untrustworthy.
“How can the President and his Vice be asking Nigerian universities to become one of the leading universities of the world without making the same commitments responsive and responsible governments in the world are making to Education? Our leadership have shown consistent disrespect for agreements and this is why they can no longer be trusted by our Union.”
ASUU had declared total, indefinite and comprehensive strike over failure of the Buhari-led federal government to fulfill the content of the Memorandum of Action it signed with the Union in 2017 bothering on revitalisation and funding of universities, unpaid accumulated earned academic allowances, release of University staff pension company license among other issues.

Atiku warns Buhari over releasing ‘repentant’ Boko Haram terrorists

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday warned the President Muhammadu Buhari government, to “review its policy of releasing so-called ‘repentant’ terrorists”.
In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku bemoaned the level of insecurity in the country.
According to the former vice-president, both Muslim and Christian clerics now officiate funerals more than marriages and child dedication.
Atiku called on the Federal Government to take bold steps to end unnecessary deaths, because he was tired of issuing condolences on such deaths.
He said, “I have been travelling all over Nigeria and I meet with both Muslim and Christian clerics who tell me that in the North East and Middle Belt, they now officiate over more funerals than they do marriages and child dedications. This is heartbreaking and we must do something immediately to change the situation.
“Apart from funding, I advise the Federal Government to review its policy of releasing so-called ‘repentant’ terrorists. To think that the government can de-radicalise these individuals in so short a time is wishful thinking.
“Many people, myself included, think that the upsurge in terror activities coming after the release of such detainees is not coincidental.
“Finally, I urge the National Assembly to suo moto, take action to appropriate funds for our military on a fast-track basis. These are desperate times for Nigeria and desperate times call for dedication to duty of all concerned.
“I am tired of issuing condolences for unnecessary deaths. I prefer to make a difference and prevent unnecessary deaths amongst the gallant men and women of our armed forces and the civilian population they took an oath to protect.”

Does Women’s Hijab Have To Be Black?

Praise be to Allaah.
The conditions of the hijab of the Muslim woman are:
It is not one of these conditions that it should be black. A woman may wear whatever she wants, so long as she does not wear a colour that is only for men , and she does not wear a garment that is an adornment in itself, i.e., decorated and adorned in such a way that it attracts the gaze of men, because of the general meaning of the verse (interpretation of the meaning):
“…and not to show off their adornment…”
[al-Noor 24:31]
This general meaning includes the outer garment, if it is decorated. Abu Dawood (565) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not prevent the female slaves of Allaah from attending the mosques of Allaah, but let them go out unadorned.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 515.
It says in ‘Awn al-Ma’bood:
“ ‘Unadorned’ means not wearing perfume… they are commanded to go out like this and are forbidden to wear perfume lest they provoke men’s desires with their perfume. That also includes other things which are forbidden because they provoke desire, such as beautiful clothing and visible and expensive adornment.”
What a woman must do if she appears before non-mahram men is to avoid clothes that are decorated and adorned, which attract the gaze of men.
It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (17/100):
It is not permissible for a woman to go out in a decorated garment that attracts people’s gaze, because this is something that tempts men.
It also says (17/108):
The dress of the Muslim woman need not only be black. It is permissible for her to wear any colour of clothing so long as it covers her ‘awrah, does not resemble men’s clothing, and is not so tight as to show the shape of her limbs or so thin as to show what is beneath it, and does not provoke temptation.
And it says (17/109):
Wearing black for women is not a must. They may wear other colours that are worn only by women, do not attract attention and do not provoke desire.
Many women choose to wear black, not because it is obligatory, but because it is farthest removed from being an adornment. There are reports which indicate that the women of the Sahaabah used to wear black. Abu Dawood (4101) narrated that Umm Salamah said: “When the words ‘and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)’ [al-Noor 24:31 – interpretation of the meaning] were revealed, the women of the Ansaar went out looking as if there were crows on their heads because of their garments.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
The Standing Committee (17/110) said: This is to be understood as meaning that those clothes were black in colour.
And Allaah knows best.

Sexy Steel On Entertainers' Role In Good Governance

Everything you need to live well
Nigerian singer, Abuede Chile Abbey a.k.a Sexy Steel has said he believes if entertainers can support one another, good governance will be restored in Nigeria.
He made this known while speaking with Showtime. He said,
“Nigerian entertainers have a large role to play in Nigerian politics. As artistes, our fan base is very strong, if we support one another, trust me, we’re going to take over.”
The singer was also full of praises for legendary Nigerian singer, Tuface Idibia who he said has continuously advocated better governance through his music.
“To be honest with you, 2Baba’s continuous advocacy for better governance is a beautiful initiative because it is high time we stopped waiting for our leaders to do things for us; we can actually start individually for others to follow. Especially, we celebrities, with our fan base, we have a lot of people that we’re mentoring. We’re role models to so many people.
So, if we start the advocacy, it’s not a bad idea. It’s just like what Davido did recently; trust me, he single-handedly shook the whole of Osun State. That’s the power of one person and I think we should do more of that”, he said.
He added that though he dislikes politics because it is a dirty game, he is ready to pull his full weight behind any credible entertainer who indicates interest in vying for a political position.
“Personally I don’t like politics; because I believe it is a dirty game and I’ve tried as much as possible to be a very straight forward person, that’s the reason I haven’t been talking about politics. For now, I’m not even thinking of going into politics. But if there is any other person that I know that wants to go into it, I could support but personally it’s a no for me for now.”

PDP to sanction three over Ademola Adeleke’s certificate, blackmail

The Southwest Zonal office of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said three members of the party in Osun state, including, Olalekan Awosiyan, Thomas Ojetade and Sina Awodire would be recommended for sanctions in accordance with the party’s constitution for “dragging the Party and its gubernatorial candidate in the last Osun election, Senator Ademola Adeleke to court over issues that bothers on alleged fake certificate.”
The zonal Secretary of the party, Reverend Bunmi Jenyo, who made the disclosure in Ibadan on Thursday, also accused the trio of “employing blackmail to destabilize the party for reasons best known to them.”
The PDP scribe, in company of another witness to the peace accord, a Senatorial Youth leader, Osun East, Mr Kazeem Ogunsola, claimed Mr Ojetade willingly agreed to withdraw the suit following a peace meeting initiated by the zonal Chairman, Dr Eddy Olafeso, and was never at any point pressurised to so do.
Jenyo reiterated that “the petitioner (Mr. Thomas Ojetade) opened up that the three plaintiffs involved in filing the suit at that time wanted to fight Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi’s course as a result of the party’s refusal to give him the Osun West Senatorial ticket and Coordinator, Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization in Osun state”.
According to him, the case against the eligibility of Adeleke was pre-planned, prepared and signed at the Ile-Ogbo residence of the said former governorship aspirant.
According to Jenyo “Having been instructed by the leadership of our party in the Southwest under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eddy Olafeso, to investigate the matter and resolve it amicably, I went to lle Ife on Friday, November 16th to hold meetings with the petitioners.
“I could not locate all the three petitioners in the suit until the intervention of Ife Federal Constituency candidate, Hon. Abimbola Ajilesoro who connected me with Osun East Senatorial Youth Leader, Mr. Kazeem Ogunsola who brought in one of the petitioners, Mr. Ojetade Thomas to the house of Hon. Ajilesoro in Parakin, Ile-Ife on Saturday 17th November 2018 morning.
“I was invited to discuss with Mr. Thomas Ojetade and Mr. Kazeem Ogunsola at the venue but the meeting could not hold due to the unconducive atmosphere as a result of the various political activities at the house of the House of Representatives candidate. So, Hon. Ajilesoro suggested that both persons follow me to my house in Abere, Osogbo for a peaceful meeting.
“Mr. Thomas Ojetade who happily agreed also called another plaintiff in the suit, Mr. Awodire Sina Peter who also promised to join us in the course of the meeting. The latter however, did not show up while the meeting lasted.
“After a lengthy discussion, he felt sober and apologised for roles played in the case. As a result, he voluntarily agreed to withdraw from the case with immediate effect, in the interest of the Party.
“It was at that juncture, that he had to speak with the lawyer, Mr. Temitope Elusogbon, who prepared the affidavit, on the telephone. He signed the document in front of me and Mr. Kazeem Ogunsola and promised to come alongside the Youth Leader, to court on Monday November 19 for further processes to finally withdraw the case for out-of-court settlement. He asked for financial compensation for his efforts and further discussions were mutually agreed to be shifted till Monday, after court sitting.
“Obviously, the meeting was peaceful, no interference whatsoever, it was only three of us. I instructed my driver to drop him at the garage and offered him Six Thousand Naira (#6,000) only for his transportation back to Modakeke, his abode.
“I am particularly surprised to receive a phone call from one Inspector Emmanuel who asked whether I threatened him to sign the document. I, therefore explain to him that the concocted story of a police pointing gun at his head never arise, indeed, no policeman or any other person attended the meeting with the three of us only.
“Another surprise was a Press Conference he addressed in Osogbo on Tuesday where he wrongfully and deceitfully accused my personality of threatening him and his family.”

Akure-based human rights activist, Morakinyo Ogele, has vowed to lead a protest against any state government, which refuses to pay N30,000 minimum wage to workers.
An Akure-based human rights activist, Morakinyo Ogele, has vowed to lead a protest against any state government, which refuses to pay N30,000 minimum wage to workers.
He said any state governor who is not ready to pay the N30,000 minimum wage should resign or face mass protest of workers.
In a statement in Akure yesterday, Ogele insisted that the state governors have the capacity to pay the new minimum wage that had since become a controversy.
He lamented that state governments expend money on frivolities such as the Office of the First Lady, which he described as unconstitutional and a waste of states’ funds.
According to him, governors spend one-third of the state allocation, which was supposed to take care of urgent needs of the people, on the office of the First Lady.
Consequently, he threatened to lead a massive protest against the oppression of workers by the governors, giving a seven-day ultimatum to all the governors across the nation.
Ogele, who canvassed eradication of the office, urged the state governors to reduce the number of their aides and other forms of wastages.
“My advice to our governors is that they must re-order their priorities in cutting or reducing wastage and restrain themselves from spending on what is not beneficial to their states.
“I am now making a patriotic call to all workers, students, market women, artisan and farmers to come out en-masse to support the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). I am ready to lead this justifiable revolution against the oppression of governors on the poor masses,” he said.

Mikel Obi's Russian Partner Reveals What She Thinks About Nigerian Women

Mikel and Olga with their kids
Olga Diyachenko, the Russian partner of Nigerian footballer, Mikel Obi has penned down her thoughts about Nigerian women.
Olga who has been in Nigeria after paying a visit to the country with Mikel and their daughters, shared her thoughts on her Instagram page.
The mother-of-two shared these photos of some locations in Nigeria as well as those of Nigerian women on her page, then went on to pen down her thoughts.
Olga shared this photo on Instagram
She wrote: "Nigeria, what a surprise you've turned out be. But, if I’m to say what impressed me most, it’s The Women. So much; grace, charisma and not a shred of insecurity. Nigerian women walk swaying their beautiful hips with their backs impeccably straight, heads held high, knowing their worth.
"Their attitude is strong, yet very sensual, regardless whether it’s a wealthy woman walking through a 5 star hotel or a young girl crossing the road at 7 AM rushing to work. Although may I say, Nigerian women do not rush, nor do they fidget, they simply glide.
"The way Nigerian women preserve their culture and traditions is admirable. They don’t chase international designers or dress according to Vogue, they wear beautiful traditional dresses, dance the traditional dances and do it all with pride!
"I hope Ava and Mia will inherit the calmness, sense of pride, posture and self worth that I’ve witnessed Nigerian women posses with such ease. Nigerian Women hat off to you #Nigeria #Pride #Women"

Gunmen attack PDP chieftains in Rivers, kill one

…PDP fingers APC
…We know nothing about the attack, APC
By Davies Iheamnachor
PORT HARCOURT – A supporter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has been feared killed in Rivers State as gunmen attack chieftains of the party.

The incident which happened on Wednesday evening at Ipo Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state left many others with bullet wounds.
However, the spokesman of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said the police are not aware that anyone died in the incident.
Omoni noted that the attack was carried out by yet to be identified gunmen, adding that three persons sustained wounds.
It was learnt that the PDP chieftains had visited Ipo community for a ward-to-ward Permanent Voters’ Card, PVC, sensitisation when the yet to be identified gunmen struck.
It was also learned that to Chairman of the LGA, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, who narrowly escaped assassination has been taken to a health facility for treatment.
A source privy to the incident, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the gunmen numbering over 30 fully armed invaded the event and shot sporadically.
The source also disclosed that killers vandalised many cars, adding that Nwanosike and other chieftains of the party who attended the event only escaped because they drove on a bullet proof vehicle.
The source said: “At the peak of the PDP event at Ipo gunmen entered and opened fire. Our leaders narrowly escaped assassination from the scene.
“The boys number over 30 chased out leaders who were a bullet proof car and they shot many bullet at the car. They escaped because vehicle is bullet proof.”
APC leaders masterminded attack – PDP
The Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Hon. Darlington Orji, accused the leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the area of the attack.
Orji, who confirmed the development to Vanguard yesterday, stated that the party lost one person in the attack, adding that many others sustained bullet wounds.
He said: “Our party went for ward-to-ward PVC sensitisation in Ipo and we were attacked by APC sponsored thugs.
“Precisely, on the 5th of November at ward two Isiokpo, the Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Samuel Nwanosike, made it open that there was a meeting going on at Afrique Hotel. All the leaders of APC in the LGA engaged one School Boy, who was declared wanted by the state government to attack us.
“They attacked us around 2.pm. They killed one of our members. We have informed the security agencies of the threats and signal we received and it has happened.”
But, APC in a swift response, denied knowledge of the attack, adding that the attackers are allies of PDP who feel abandoned by the party.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Chris Finebone said: “We know nothing about what they are saying. We understand their attackers are their former allies who killed and maimed APC members in 2015 and subsequent rerun elections who feel abandoned by the PDP.
“At least, that’s the information we are hearing. If they truly had credible information about complicity of anyone, why didn’t they approach security agents for arrests and investigation?
“Our real worry is that the PDP know that they brought this on themselves. They only want to use it to lay a foundation for a fresh narrative that will kick start fresh round of violence as the 2019 elections approach. You know that they thrive on violence.”
Shun electoral violence, youths charged
Meantime, the Coordinator of Media Awareness and Justice Initiative, MAJI, Onyekachi Okoro, called youths of the state to avoide been used by politicians yo cause violence before, during and after elections in the state.
Okoro, who spoke in Port Harcourt yesterday at a two strategy meeting of stakeholders in the 23 LGAs of the state on ‘Vote not Fight, VNF, Campaign’, organised in collaboration with National Democratic Institute, NDI, urged youths to seek development.
He advised youths to shun being engaged to disrupt campaigns and hijack electoral material to favour a particular party, adding that youths should work positively to take over elective offices.

Tension in Anambra as Police cordon off Assembly complex

There was tension in the vicinity of Anambra House of Assembly on Thursday as the Police deployed heavily armed personnel are strategic points leading to the parliamentary complex.
Policemen at checkpoint
The House is expected to resume sitting on Thursday after its crisis which began on Tuesday over attempt to impeach the Speaker, Mrs Rita Nmaduagwu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that policemen were stationed at Ekwueme Square, NULGE Secretariat Junction and barricaded roads leading to the Complex with patrol trucks.
Workers in Anambra Universal Basic Education Board, Independent National Electoral Commission and the High Court, all within the assembly area were forced by the police to disembark from commercial vehicles and walk.
Those in private vehicles were thoroughly screened to establish their identities and destinations while some vehicles were diverted from the area.
Some members of assembly on Tuesday purportedly impeached the Speaker and elected Mr Ikem Uzozie as her replacement.
The attempt which was reportedly botched has since split the house into two factions as Mmaduagwu insisted that her purported removal was invalid.
Police spokesman in the command, SP Mohammed Haruna, did not take calls or respond to messages to his phone on enquiries over the deployment of personnel in the assembly area.
A source close to the assembly, however, told NAN that Thursday’s sitting may have been shelved to give room for more consultations and reconciliation among the lawmakers and other stakeholders. (NAN)

Atiku Heavily Loses Facebook Pool Created By His Support Group

A pro Atiku campaign Support group known as Democratic Solidarity group DSG decided to run a mock poll on their Facebook page between Atiku their candidate and Buhari.
The poll was created on the 12th of November and as at today they are being panel beaten by Buhari and a tsunami of votes for him.
So far it is Atiku 23% and Buhari 77% with over 14,500 votes cast.
Its clear that the supporters of Buhari have their eyes focused on the prize so do not like making a lot of social media noise. While the supporters of Atiku are revelling in the noise they are making which seems to hold no substance.
My party is obviously getting things wrong as the elections draw closer and fast loosing the love of the masses.
The shouts of Atikulate which was once everywhere has since died down and the euphoria almost non existent.
So sad cry
